How do I exchange? |
- Once you have found a listing of your choice under the home exchange division of
the site:- click the “email member” button to send a privacy protected email to
the member owner of that listing listing (ensure you have logged in).Alternatively, click the "get contact details" button to get other contact details. (These functions are available to members with listed properties only).
- Home exchanges are a one-to-one exchange, and are not in a pool.
- Exchanges can be for any length of time that you arrange with your swop partner.
You can exchange anywhere in the world too. You can exchange several times a year
too!

Can I use my everyday home for the exchange, or can I only use my holiday home?
Must it be a house? |
- Yes, you may use your everyday home or your holiday home for the holiday exchange.

What sort of accommodation is suitable for exchange? |
- Villas, apartments, houses, boat houses, large yachts, barges, RV’s – its limited
by your imagination!

How safe is it? |
- Remember that while they get to stay in your home – you get to stay in theirs!
Before the actual exchange takes place, you will have had opportunity to correspond
by email, talk on the phone and swap recent photographs. Good communication between
parties prior to the exchange addressing all your concerns is important for a satisfactory
stay. You may even ask for referrals on your exchange host. It is never the less,
a good idea to lock away valuables or treasured items before letting or exchanging
your home out.
Your home is more likely to be safer from theft and vandalism with guests present,
than if it is left unoccupied.
The decision to swap with a particular partner or particular property is entirely
yours. Home exchange for holidays is a concept that has been around for a long time;
it is built on trust and is a good opportunity to make new friends!

Are exchange dates flexible? Do we have to exchange at the same time? |
- The exchanges can be arranged so as to suit both individual parties involved in
the exchange, including times of exchange. It is not required that the exchange
times be at the exact same time.

How much does it cost? |
- $97 membership fee to list your property per year (and watch the pricing list for any specials)
You may exchange your property as often as you wish during this period of time.
There are no other exchange charges involved.
In fact you save loads of money – when your accommodation is for free!

Who cleans the pool? Who cleans the house? Who does the garden? Who looks after
the pets? |
- Exchange parties need to come to their own agreements on how they wish to handle
this. Remember your exchange partners are on holiday – just like you! The general
rule is that you should leave the house in the same position as you found it.

Who pays the bills? |
- Usually each party will pay their own household bill, although the telephone is
often arranged separately. Exchanging members should agree in advance on who will
pay what expense, to ensure fairness to both parties.

Are we required to enter into a formal contract? |
- You may choose to enter into a formal agreement with the person you wish to swop
with. An example of such an agreement you could use is listed at

What about cars and pets? |
- Individual arrangements on whether to swop cars and who is to look after the pets
will need to be made. You will need to establish your own terms and conditions regarding
this.
Check your insurance arrangements with your insurance company if you wish to exchange
cars. (Many companies will allow someone else to drive your car for 30 days).

What about dealing with insurance and Liability? |
- Please consult your insurance company. In most instances insurance companies will
allow you to have invited guests into your home!

What are hospitality exchanges? Can we use this site for hospitality exchanges? |
- This is when your home exchange partners stay with you as guests, and then reciprocate
the favour to you.
Yes, Holiday Home Exchange members may choose this option.
Some people even offer this option to their children as a “Youth”/”Student” exchange,
to experience living in a different culture with a different family.
